DIY Projects

Happy Saturday everyone! As promised, today I'm writing a blog post about the DIYs I did last weekend. As you can see on the picture above, I completed two projects last week. The first one is a painting of a zebra (oh man, I hope you figured that out, because if you ask me, it doesn't look like a zebra at all), and the second one is a black and white portrait made with paper.

Let's start with the zebra. Like I said in one of my blogposts last week, I went to the craft store and bought some supplies. I already had paint and proper paper to paint on. I am not much of a creative person, and my drawing skills are just poor. I don't have a problem with admitting that, because I know it is true. And because I've always wanted to be a good drawer/painter, I decided to give it a shot. Well, this is how it turned out. Not the prettiest zebra ever, but I am quite satisfied with the result. I mean, this was the first time I tried.

Now on to the second one. Like the picture says, it is a portrait of Phil Collins. This picture is the cover of his single I Wish It Would Rain Down. I am a huge Phil Collins fan, and even though he doesn't have a face that you would recognize immediately, I still wanted to use this picture, because there are amazing shadows.

This is how it works:
You copy the picture from google, you paste it into word, and turn all of the colors black and white. After that you print it, and you cut out the black pieces (and under the printed sheet you lay a black sheet). The reason why you cut out the black pieces is because the colour of the paper I'm using as a base is white.
After that, you just have to lay all of the seperate pieces of paper on the white sheet, place them correctly and glue them on the paper. Doens't sound very difficult, right? Well, it isn't that hard to do, but you have to do it very precisely. Because my black craft paper was much thicker than I expected, the cutting was a bit harder to do.

On the pictures on the right you can see how I did it. Also a quick
little tip: If you tape the printed sheet to the black craft paper, it stays in place and you don't make any cutting mistakes. (:

Well, that was about it! These were my two DIY projects. The first one is of course just a simple painting, but maybe you could try out the second one! You can use any picture for this project. Only thing is that the picture must have lightning coming from the sides (is dat grammatically correct? I hope so), so that when you turn the colours into black and white, the shadows are visible.

Love,
